UAE officials announced on Friday that construction of a new oil pipeline that will bypass the Strait of Hormuz will be accelerated, following disruptions to exports caused by the Middle East conflict.
The West‑East Pipeline is projected to double ADNOC’s throughput via the Fujairah port and is slated to become operational next year, according to the Abu Dhabi Media Office.
The report added that Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has instructed ADNOC to expedite the project.
An existing 360‑kilometre (224‑mile) pipeline that runs from the Habshan oil fields to Fujairah can transport 1.8 million barrels per day, the Port of Fujairah website states.
The UAE, which announced its exit from OPEC earlier this month, aims to increase production capacity to five million barrels per day by next year.
Oil installations in Fujairah have suffered repeated attacks during the Middle East war; the most recent strike on May 4 wounded three Indian nationals.
