U.S. Representative Nancy Mace has introduced a proposal to prohibit immigration from three African nations due to security concerns.
She identified Somalia, Sudan, and South Sudan as the targeted countries, describing them as “Third World Hellholes.”
The proposal was announced in a statement posted on her official website on Wednesday.
Mace said the legislation aims to protect American communities from the security risks she associates with the three countries.
“Today, Congresswoman Nancy Mace (R‑SC) announced her plans to introduce legislation to ban immigration from Somalia, Sudan, and South Sudan, protecting American communities from the instability and security threats these nations bring,” the statement read.
She added that the United States will prioritize the safety and security of its citizens over the interests of foreign nationals.
Mace further noted that Somalia, Sudan, and South Sudan rank among the world’s most dangerous and unstable nations.
She warned that the U.S. should avoid repeating immigration mistakes she cited as having been made by some European countries.
