United States confirmed that it launched new strikes on southern Iran on Monday, targeting Iranian missile sites and boats that were attempting to lay mines.

Capt. Tim Hawkins, spokesperson for the US Central Command (CENTCOM), announced the operation in a statement released on Monday.

CENTCOM said the attacks were carried out in self‑defence and were intended to protect US troops from threats posed by Iranian forces.

"US forces conducted self‑defence strikes in southern Iran today to protect our troops from threats posed by Iranian forces," the statement read. "US Central Command continues to defend our forces while using restraint during the ongoing ceasefire."

The IRGC added that Iran has the legitimate and definite right to retaliate against any US ceasefire violations.
