Two suspected vandals receive jail terms in Edo

Two individuals were sentenced by a magistrate’s court for alleged vandalism of critical national assets in Okpella, Etsako East Local Government Area.

The sentencing took place in Okpella under the presiding magistrate, P.U. Abu.

The conviction followed a lawsuit filed by the Edo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) against the accused.

Efosa Ogbebor, the Public Relations Officer for the command, said the sentence highlighted the command’s intensified crackdown on economic sabotage and its pledge to protect critical national assets and infrastructure.

Ogbebor noted that five suspects had previously been arraigned before the court for the vandalism in the area.

He added that two of those suspects were convicted and sentenced to two years’ imprisonment each, while the remaining three remain in custody awaiting further judicial proceedings.

“These outcomes reflect the command’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding government infrastructure and protecting national economic interests,” he said.
