Two people were killed by suspected gunmen in clashes that authorities believe are linked to cult activity in Edo State.

According to the DAILY POST, the incidents occurred in the Ugbiyokho area along Ekehuan Road in Ovia North‑East Local Government and at Jattu Junction in Auchi, Etsako West Local Government.

In the Auchi incident, a motor‑park worker known only as Jogodo was shot dead at about 10:30 am on Monday at Jattu Junction. The assailants, who reportedly arrived in a black Lexus RX 350 SUV, opened fire on Jogodo before fleeing the scene.

In a separate incident, a young man identified only as Happy was shot dead near Ugbiyokho along Ekehuan Road. The victim was reportedly returning home from work when the attack took place. A source, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that while Happy’s wife was opening the gate to their residence, attackers ambushed him and fired at close range before escaping. Happy was rushed to a hospital but later died from his gunshot wounds.

The motive behind the attacks was not immediately clear at the time of reporting.

When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the Edo State Police Command, ASP Eno Ikoedem, said that three suspects have been arrested in connection with the Auchi incident. She added that the Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, has ordered the suspects to be transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department at the command’s headquarters. The motor park has been temporarily sealed as it is a murder case, and preliminary investigations suggest the dispute was over control of the park.

These incidents have heightened concerns about cult‑related violence in the state and the affected areas.
