Two students from Prince Abubakar Audu University in Ayingba, Kogi State, have been taken into custody after the murder of 300‑level Biochemistry student David Ocholi Solomon on campus.

The university spokesperson, Uredo Omale, said the suspects were seized within two hours of the incident and handed over to security agencies for further investigation and prosecution.

Vice‑Chancellor Professor Salisu Usman Ogbo informed the bereaved family in Lokoja during a condolence visit on Saturday.

“The suspects were arrested by the university’s internal security and have been handed over to the law enforcement agency for further investigation and prosecution,” Prof. Ogbo said.

He added that he learned of the incident while attending the 35th Annual National Conference and Convention of the Nigerian Political Science Association (NPSA) at the University of Ibadan.

“This is deeply painful and distressing, as the news plunged the entire university community into mourning,” he said.

Prof. Ogbo explained that the university is working closely with security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation and identify all involved, emphasizing the institution’s zero‑tolerance policy toward cultism, violence and criminality. He noted that security measures on and around the campus have been strengthened, with further reforms expected in the coming days to prevent a recurrence.

He also praised Governor Usman Ododo, traditional rulers and security agencies for their support in maintaining peace within the university community.

Representing the family, the deceased’s father, Mr. Solomon Idachaba, thanked the university management for the condolence visit and commended the swift arrest of the suspects, while urging authorities to ensure that justice is served.
