Gunmen believed to belong to the Lakurawa group are reported to have killed two Customs officers in the Tuga community of Bagudu Local Government Area, Kebbi State.
The attack is said to have taken place in the early hours of Wednesday when the assailants breached two nearby security checkpoints.
A source who spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity for security reasons said a senior officer among the victims was burned alive after the attackers set fire to the area where he was sleeping.
The source added that the assault occurred at approximately 3 am.
He explained, “The gunmen attacked two checkpoints that are very close to each other.
“They shot one officer, a one‑star, while they burnt the three‑star officer alive.
“They arrived in a truck, pretending to be transporting animals, which caught the officers off guard.
“Two other officers who sustained gunshot wounds are now in hospital receiving treatment.”
When approached for comment, Mustapha Mubarak, Public Relations Officer of the Kebbi State Customs Command, said a press release would be issued once the command obtains a complete report of the incident.
He neither confirmed nor denied the details of the attack, stating, “We will issue a statement once we get the full report.”
The spokesperson for the Nigerian Police, Kebbi State Command, SP Bashir Usman, could not be reached at the time of this report.
