Turaki‑PDP faction names Jonathan as presidential candidate in his absence

The Taminu Turaki‑led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has named former President Goodluck Jonathan as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.

The decision was made at a special national convention held at the faction’s secretariat in Area 10, Garki, Abuja.

Jonathan was not present when his nomination was formally ratified.

The Certificate of Return was received on his behalf by Bayelsa lawmaker Fred Agbedi.

The announcement was made during a gathering attended by delegates and party stakeholders aligned with the Turaki‑led group.

Daily Post reports that another PDP faction, backed by Federal Capital Territory minister Nyesom Wike, had elected Sandy Onor as its presidential candidate.

The Wike‑led faction also denied reports that Jonathan had become the opposition party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 election.

Jonathan has yet to issue an official comment on his nomination by the Turaki‑led PDP camp.
