The Plateau State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has become further confused after the faction headed by Tanimu Turaki presented a Certificate of Return to Sunday Garba Biggs on Wednesday, naming him the party’s candidate for the 2027 Plateau State governorship election.
Earlier, on Tuesday, the faction led by former Rivers State Governor and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, had also presented a Certificate of Return to its chosen candidate for the same election.
The certificate was handed to Biggs during a ceremony that followed a meeting of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Turaki‑aligned faction, which convened state chairmen, party elders, members of the Board of Trustees (BOT), governorship candidates, and other stakeholders nationwide.
Biggs, who voiced his delight and satisfaction upon receiving the Certificate of Return, said it formally assigns him the task of leading the PDP’s governorship campaign in Plateau State.
He added that the PDP’s presentation signals confidence in his capacity to deliver purposeful leadership and advocate policies that promote good governance, peace, and sustainable development throughout the state.
Attendees and party supporters at the event also portrayed Biggs as a leader possessing the vision and capacity to unite the populace and advance Plateau citizens’ developmental aspirations.
While the certificate presentation represents a key milestone in the PDP’s 2027 election preparations, political observers warn that the party risks repeating the error that occurred in the 2023 election, which resulted in the Appeal Court disqualifying all its elected lawmakers for violating electoral rules.
