President Donald Trump announced that the United States will take action after Iran allegedly shot down an American Apache helicopter during a patrol over the Strait of Hormuz.
In a Truth Social post on Tuesday, Trump said he had been informed by the U.S. military that the incident occurred overnight and involved a “highly sophisticated Apache Helicopter.”
The president added that the two pilots aboard survived the event and were not injured.
Trump wrote: “I have just been informed by our Great Military that last night the Iranians shot down one of our highly sophisticated Apache Helicopters while patrolling over the Strait of Hormuz. There were two pilots involved, both are safe and uninjured. Nevertheless, the United States must, of necessity, respond to this attack. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
Daily Post reports that the incident represents a new escalation in tensions between Washington and Tehran in the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil shipping route.
