Title: Trump: Iran Ceasefire on Life Support, Peace Document Piece of Garbage

President Donald Trump said yesterday that a ceasefire with Iran was “on life support” after he rejected Tehran’s response to a U.S. peace proposal, raising concerns about a possible resurgence of fighting in the 10‑week‑old conflict that has killed thousands and disrupted essential energy flows.

Days after Washington floated a proposal intended to restart negotiations, Iran on Sunday issued a response that called for ending the war on all fronts, including Lebanon, where U.S. ally Israel is battling Iran‑backed Hezbollah militants. Trump rejected the Iranian response promptly.

When asked about the status of the ceasefire, Trump told reporters on Monday that the document Iran sent was “a piece of garbage.”

He said: “I would say the ceasefire is on massive life support… when the doctor walks in and says, ‘Sir, your loved one has approximately a 1 percent chance of living’.”

The president described Iran’s leaders as “very dishonourable people.” “Look, I’ve had to deal with them four or five times – they change their mind. That piece of garbage they sent us – I didn’t even finish reading it,” he added.

Trump also accused Iran of reneging on an agreement that would have allowed the United States to remove its supply of enriched uranium. He reiterated that Iran would “never have a nuclear weapon.”

In its reply, Tehran demanded compensation for war damage, stressed its sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz, and called on the United States to end its naval blockade, guarantee no further attacks, lift sanctions and remove the ban on Iranian oil sales.

The United States had proposed ending hostilities before moving to more contentious issues such as Iran’s nuclear programme. Tehran defended its position on Monday, according to a Reuters report.

“Our demand is legitimate: demanding an end to the war, lifting the (U.S.) blockade and piracy, and releasing Iranian assets that have been unjustly frozen in banks due to U.S. pressure,” Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said.

“Safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz and establishing security in the region and Lebanon were other demands of Iran, which are considered a generous and responsible offer,” he added.
