On Wednesday, President Donald Trump announced that Iran has assured the United States that no fees will be levied on vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz, a development that comes amid ongoing talks aimed at ending the conflict in the Middle East.

“Iran has informed the U.S. that… there are ‘NO TOLLS, NO INSURANCE COSTS, & NO OTHER CHARGES OF ANY KIND BEING SOUGHT OR RECEIVED BY IRAN ON SHIPS TRAVELING THE STRAIT OF HORMUZ’,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform, without specifying whether those assurances would remain in place after the 60‑day negotiating period.

Iran has consistently indicated that it intends to impose maritime service fees—rather than traditional tolls—on ships passing through the strait, a proposal that the United States strongly rejects.

On Tuesday, Iran and Oman announced they would review the fees for services related to managing the Strait of Hormuz, asserting their sovereign authority over the passage.
