US President Donald Trump is in “excellent health” but has been advised to lose weight, according to a medical memo released Friday following a routine health examination.
Trump’s physician, US Navy Captain Sean Barbabella, said the 79-year-old president remained in strong physical condition.
“President Trump remains in excellent health, demonstrating strong cardiac, pulmonary, neurological and overall physical function,” Barbabella stated in the three-page report.
He added that preventive counselling was provided, including dietary guidance, increased physical activity, continued weight loss and the use of a low-dose aspirin.
The report summarised the results of Trump’s physical examination and diagnostic tests conducted Tuesday at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center near Washington.
According to Barbabella, Trump is “fully fit to carry out all duties of the Commander-in-Chief and Head of State.”
Trump, who turns 80 next month, is currently taking three medications — two for cholesterol management and aspirin for cardiovascular prevention.
The report showed that Trump, who stands six feet three inches (191 cm) tall, now weighs 238 pounds (108 kg), up from the 224 pounds (101.6 kg) recorded during his last publicly released annual medical examination in April 2025.
The latest check-up was Trump’s third medical assessment since returning to office last year and comes amid speculation about his health, including visible bruising on his hands and reports of drowsiness during some meetings.
Addressing the bruising, the memo said an examination of Trump’s hands revealed ecchymosis, or bruising, “consistent with minor soft tissue irritation related to frequent handshaking in the setting of aspirin use for cardiovascular prevention.”
Reacting to the examination, Trump said it went “PERFECTLY” in a post on his Truth Social platform.
