Trump asked for tougher terms in proposed Iran war deal

President Donald Trump has requested changes to a proposal aimed at ending the Middle East conflict, according to U.S. media reports released Saturday. The proposal, which remains incomplete, was sent back to Iran for consideration after Trump’s requested modifications.

The New York Times reported that the changes were intended to make the terms more stringent. While the specific adjustments were not immediately disclosed, Axios noted that Trump sought to strengthen several key aspects of the deal, particularly those concerning Iran’s nuclear material.

These revisions could extend the negotiation period before a decision is made on whether the agreement will bring an end to the war that began after the United States and Israel carried out joint strikes on Iran on February 28.

U.S. officials told AFP that the proposal had been awaiting Trump’s approval, but he did not reach a decision following a White House Situation Room meeting on Friday.

Trump has stated that his priorities for any agreement include Iran’s commitment not to develop nuclear weapons and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, which handles roughly 20 percent of the world’s oil supply.
