Sector 1 troops of the Joint Task Force North West Operation Fansan Yamma (OPFY) have eliminated two suspected bandits, detained four additional suspects, and recovered stolen livestock during coordinated operations in Kaduna State, reflecting intensified efforts to dismantle criminal networks in the North‑West.
Between June 20 and 21, the operations yielded weapons, ammunition, motorcycles and electronic devices that military authorities said contained incriminating evidence of banditry and terrorist activity.
The military said the first operation began on June 20 after credible intelligence about cattle‑rustling in a Kaduna community.
Troops moved quickly, intercepted the fleeing criminals, and engaged in a firefight that resulted in the neutralisation of two suspected bandits. They also seized stolen livestock, weapons and ammunition, thereby foiling the operation.
Military authorities also reported that one civilian died during the incident, an outcome attributed to the actions of the bandits.
In a separate operation on the same day, troops on a night patrol intercepted two suspected bandits.
A search of the suspects reportedly uncovered digital materials that linked them to terrorist and bandit activities in the area.
The suspects have since been detained and are undergoing further investigation.
On June 21, the crackdown continued as troops on a fighting patrol encountered armed criminals who fled into nearby bushes under military pressure.
The soldiers pursued the suspects and subsequently arrested two suspected bandit scouts who were believed to provide intelligence support to local criminal groups.
Recovered items included motorcycles and communication devices that contained evidence deemed relevant to ongoing investigations.
In another development, troops were deployed to restore order after a violent disturbance in the Mararraba community, Kaduna State.
The unrest reportedly began after a female suspect accused of child trafficking was killed by a mob.
Angry residents then attempted to attack public infrastructure and block a major highway.
Troops responded quickly, dispersing the crowd, securing critical facilities, and restoring free movement along the affected route.
Security personnel have since maintained a presence in the area to prevent further breakdown
