In a coordinated effort, troops from the Nigerian Army, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) detained 46 foreign nationals during a security operation in Ogun State.
The detainees include 18 citizens of Burkina Faso, 23 of Côte d’Ivoire, four from Togo, and one from Senegal, comprising 36 men and 10 women.
Major Idereghi Samuel Akari, Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 35 Artillery Brigade, announced the operation on Monday.
He said the operation began on 11 June 2026 after receiving intelligence reports and led to arrests at several sites in Ijebu Imushin, Ijebu Ilese, and surrounding communities.
Preliminary investigations suggest the suspects had been living in the area for roughly six months, and their immigration status is currently under review by the relevant authorities.
During questioning, the suspects claimed to be merchants and workers linked to QNet, an online marketing platform that sells a range of products and services.
Major Akari added that the detainees have been transferred to the Nigeria Immigration Service, Ogun State Command, for further investigation and any necessary administrative action in accordance with applicable laws.
Brigadier General Friday Oguche Onu, commander of the 35 Artillery Brigade, praised the troops and partner security agencies for their professionalism and vigilance. He also urged residents to stay alert and report any suspicious activity to the appropriate authorities.
The military stated that the operation underscores ongoing efforts by security agencies to strengthen border and immigration enforcement and improve internal security.
