Troops carrying out a clearance operation from Bukuyum town in Zamfara State engaged armed bandits in a fierce gun battle during an ongoing offensive along the Tsilligidi forest axis.
The incident was reported on Friday by security analyst and counter‑insurgency expert Zagazola Makama, who posted the information on his X account.
Security officials said the operation followed credible intelligence about the movement of armed groups within the forest corridor.
According to the sources, the troops advanced toward suspected hideouts when the bandits, upon detecting military pressure, tried to flee through routes linking Kundubu and Gizazz villages.
The fleeing suspects were intercepted by the troops, resulting in an intense exchange of fire in which several bandits were reportedly neutralised, while others escaped—some with possible gunshot wounds—into nearby bushes.
The operation is part of a sustained military campaign aimed at dismantling criminal enclaves and restoring security in vulnerable communities across Zamfara State.
Security officials added that pursuit and clearance operations are still ongoing in the area as troops continue to track the fleeing suspects.
