Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have arrested a suspected foreign spy during a follow-up operation in Abadam Local Government Area of Borno State, days after they foiled an attempted terrorist infiltration on a military position in the area.
The development was disclosed in a post shared on X on Wednesday night by security analyst, Zagazola Makama.

According to the post, troops of the 68 Battalion made the arrest during exploitation operations in Mallam Fatori at about 1:22 p.m. on July 13.

“The operation followed an intensified security sweep launched after terrorists attempted to infiltrate the 19 Brigade position at Cross Kauwa on July 11 but were repelled by troops,” Makama wrote.

Makama said the suspect was identified as Abubakar Mohammed Zen, who claimed to be a citizen of the Republic of Niger.

He reportedly told investigators that he had travelled from Duguri in Abadam Local Government Area.

Items recovered from the suspect included a mobile phone, Airtel recharge cards, a horse and N500 in cash.

According to military sources quoted in the post, the suspect is currently in custody and is being interrogated to verify his identity, trace his movements and determine whether he has any links to terrorist groups operating around the Lake Chad region.

The post added that the arrest is part of ongoing exploitation operations by Operation HADIN KAI aimed at identifying suspected terrorist collaborators, informants and members of support networks following the failed infiltration attempt on military positions in the area.
