Tricyclist beats lover to death, abandons body with two children in Rivers

PORT HARCOURT — A tricycle rider, identified only as IK, is accused of beating his lover to death and leaving her body with their two children in a tricycle in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The alleged incident took place on Tuesday at CPM Street in the Ogbogoro Community of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.

Witnesses say the woman died after a severe assault. The suspect then reportedly placed her body and the children inside a tricycle before fleeing the scene.

A resident, known only as Senibo, reported that neighbors were alerted early in the morning when they found the lifeless woman and the two children inside a parked tricycle.

Senibo said the matter was reported to the police at the Ozuoba Division in Obio/Akpor LGA.

He added that the older child told police that the suspect, who is her father, had beaten their mother at a guest house where they had stayed on Monday night.

According to the child’s testimony, the man abandoned the woman after she became weak and later left her body and the children in the tricycle before fleeing.

Confirming the incident, Police Public Relations Officer ASP Grace Iringe-Koko said officers received a distress report from a passerby who discovered the woman and children inside a blue tricycle.

She said a patrol team was immediately dispatched to the scene, where the woman was found lifeless alongside the two children, aged about five years and six months.

According to her, the five‑year‑old child narrated that her father had assaulted the mother during the night and then tried to take her to a hospital, where she was declared dead.

The police spokesperson added that the suspect abandoned the children and fled after the incident.

She said the deceased’s family has been contacted and the body has been deposited in a mortuary for preservation and investigation.

The police also confirmed that the children have been taken into protective custody by a relative, and efforts are underway to arrest the fleeing suspect.
