Tottenham Hotspur avoided relegation from the Premier League after a 1‑0 win over Everton on Sunday, according to Yahoo Sports.

Entering the match, the Spurs were 17th in the standings and faced two possible relegation scenarios. A loss to Everton combined with a West Ham victory over Leeds United would have seen Tottenham drop out of the top flight. Alternatively, a 1‑1 draw between Tottenham and Everton would have relegated the club if West Ham had beaten Leeds by 12 goals.

Instead, Tottenham secured the necessary victory, marking the first time the club has stayed in the Premier League since the competition began in 1992. The last season the Spurs were outside the top tier was 1977, when they spent one season in the second division before returning the following year.

The match’s only goal came in the first half when João Palhinha slipped a shot past Jordan Pickford, just skirting the line. The goal was enough for the Spurs to hold on for a 1‑0 win.

West Ham United, who were also fighting to avoid relegation, won 3‑0 against Leeds, meaning Tottenham’s survival hinged on not losing their own game.

With Tottenham’s escape, the three clubs relegated to the Championship at the end of the 2025‑26 season are West Ham United, Burnley and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Spurs finished the season with a 10‑11‑17 record over 38 matches. Their 10 victories are the fewest the club has recorded in a single season since 1935, when they finished 10‑10‑22 and were relegated to Division 2. Tottenham returned to Division 1 eight seasons later, in 1950.
