The Nigerian Naira remained stable against the British Pound Sterling across all segments of the foreign exchange market on Wednesday morning, exhibiting a pattern of steady, low‑volatility trading.
Official figures from the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market (NFEM) placed the Naira at an official rate of 1,846.90 Naira per Pound. This rate is only marginally different from Tuesday’s closing aggregate of 1,846.94 Naira, indicating that the central bank’s liquidity management strategies are maintaining the local currency’s resilience against major European soft currencies.
In the parallel market, dealers in major commercial centers such as Lagos, Kano, and Abuja reported similar stability. The British Pound is being purchased from customers at an average of 1,895 Naira and sold at a retail rate between 1,910 Naira and 1,915 Naira. The relatively narrow spread between the official and parallel market rates continues to reflect balanced demand and an absence of speculative panic among local buyers.
Currency analysts attribute the Naira’s steady valuation to the steady inflows of foreign remittances and measured corporate demand for the British currency ahead of mid‑year settlements, which have helped prevent severe pressure on the local currency.
