The Director of the Abuja School of Social and Political Thought, Sam Amadi, has warned that the current political process in Nigeria cannot guarantee good governance.
Amadi made the remarks during an interview on Arise Television, where he reflected on the conduct of the country’s primary elections.
He added that this does not mean that good governance is impossible to achieve from time to time.
According to Amadi, the process itself is flawed and often lacks structure or sequence, noting that there is nothing consistently orderly about it.
“Today’s political process cannot logically guarantee good governance. What is needed is a sense of realism,” he said.
“Democracy, as an ideal, requires a gradual and structured process of democratization that starts with getting the basics right. It may take time, but the foundation must be solid,” he added.
“If political parties are stable, then it becomes possible to clearly identify and even predict who the delegates are,” he concluded.
