Tinubu seeks senate confirmation of Marwa for NDDC board seat

ABUJA — President Bola Tinubu has written to the Senate seeking confirmation of Dr. Zainab Marwa as a member of the Governing Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), representing the North-East geopolitical zone.

The request was contained in a letter read on the floor of the Senate on Thursday by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

Tinubu said the nomination was made in line with Section 2 of the NDDC Establishment Act and is intended to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of the former North-East representative, Hon. Abdulrazak Namdas.

According to the President, Namdas resigned from the board on March 30, 2026, to contest the Adamawa State governorship election.

The letter stated: “I am pleased to present for confirmation by the Senate the nomination of Dr. Zainab Marwa as member representing the North-East in the Governing Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission.”

Tinubu urged the Senate to consider and confirm the nominee to ensure full representation of the zone on the board.

Following the reading of the letter, Akpabio referred the nomination to the Senate Committee on NDDC for further legislative action, with a report expected within one to two weeks.

Meanwhile, the Senate also announced the creation of a committee to scrutinise bills transmitted from the House of Representatives for concurrence, aimed at improving legislative coordination.

The committee is expected to be chaired by Senator Abdul Ningi (Bauchi Central).
