The Director of News at Arise Television, Sumner Sambo, warned that Nigeria would fail to address its security problems if Senate President Godswill Akpabio continued to blame the opposition for insecurity.

Sambo made the remarks on Monday during an interview on Arise Television’s “Morning Show.”

He was responding to Akpabio’s claim that the opposition was sponsoring insecurity in the country.

Akpabio alleged that certain political opponents of President Bola Tinubu’s administration were exploiting insecurity and other challenges to tarnish Nigeria’s image.

Expressing his own view, Sambo said, “For Akpabio to say that the opposition is sponsoring insecurity is reducing a serious issue to politics.”

“Nigerian politicians do not take national security seriously. If the Senate president is also making these sorts of statements, we won’t get to the root of this problem.”

“I think that reductionist approach by the President of the Senate needs to be questioned, even by President Bola Tinubu himself.”

“If that is the inner thinking of the government, then I think we have a long way to go in the country, but if the head of the Nigerian parliament is actually reducing serious issues to political issues, I think we really have a long way to go, because I mean anyone could actually be a victim of this issue.”

“So, I don’t think that the opposition politicians have their own military or police that they will be using to terrorise Nigerians, and then maybe those in government.”
