President Bola Tinubu urged Nigerians to unite and share the responsibility of nation‑building, noting that while earlier generations secured independence and democracy, the present generation must now work to deliver prosperity.
Speaking about the significance of June 12 in the country’s democratic history, Tinubu reflected on the sacrifices of past generations, observing that Nigeria’s founding fathers laid the groundwork for independence, while the struggle on June 12 marked a pivotal moment in the country’s return to democratic governance.
He said the current era requires a renewed commitment to national progress, urging citizens to reject division, cynicism, and despair in favour of unity, hope, and confidence.
“Our founding fathers secured independence—the generation of June 12 secured democracy. Our generation must secure prosperity,” he stated.
The President emphasized the need to build a nation united by a common purpose and strengthened by diversity, where justice is accessible to all, liberty is protected, and opportunities are widely available.
He further called for a collective effort to shape a more inclusive and prosperous future, stating that Nigeria’s development depends on the shared determination of its people to move forward together.
