President Bola Tinubu said that the economic reforms his administration has pursued have imposed considerable hardship on Nigerians, and that the difficulties have also affected him personally, citing sleepless nights and weight loss.
Speaking shortly after his election victory, Tinubu praised the national chairman of the electoral committee and the entire electoral team, acknowledging the effort and the toll the process has taken on everyone involved.
He stated, “The national chairman of the committee, the entire members of the electoral process committee, the steadfast support and sacrifices of Nigerians across the country—I salute all of you from all walks of life.”
“You’ve given me encouragement. Sometimes it is difficult and I shared the pain with you. I know what it takes to reform this economy that was in tatters. If you lost sleep, I lost some too. If you have lost weight, I think I have lost some too.”
“But I’ve always remembered one thing: in 2022, I asked for this job and you all supported me, and I got it, so I must do it,” he added.
