President Bola Tinubu praised Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike on Tuesday for his work in Abuja, noting that “projects are embedded in his DNA.”
He highlighted how Wike has carried the same developmental approach he used in Rivers State to the capital.
The remarks were made during the flag‑off ceremony for the construction of the service carriageways of the Southern Parkway, stretching from Arterial Road S20 (Oladipo Diya Way) to Ring Road II.
President Tinubu, represented by APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda, marked the project’s launch on the third anniversary of his administration.
“Let me pause here to express admiration for the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike. You have earned your name Mr Projects; most people thought that it was only in Rivers, but you have shown clearly that it’s in your DNA to always do projects,” he said. “Since you assumed office, you have revived abandoned projects, set clear targets, and delivered them in record time. You have brought discipline, vision, and political will to the FCT.”
“You are domesticating the Renewed Hope Agenda across every district of Abuja. Nigerians are seeing it, and I’m also seeing it. The transformation orientation under your leadership is real, aspiring, and all I can say is that well done, Mr Minister.”
He added that the completed parkway would ease vehicular movement in the area.
“It’s my privilege to be here to flag off the construction of the two service carriageways of the Southern Parkway from Arterial Road S20 to Ring Road 2 in the Federal Capital Territory,” he said. “In line with the Abuja master plan, when fully developed it will enhance vehicular traffic within the southern part of the city and provide vital inter‑district connections across phases one to four of the FCT.”
“We have already delivered the main carriageway—the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Way—completed and commissioned earlier in this administration. Now we are adding the service lanes to complete the vision. These service carriageways are not a luxury; they are essential for giving access to our people.”
“Why does this matter to citizens? Today, residents of Durumi, Kudu, Gaduwa, Jikwoyi, and the mass housing estate in Phase 1 face heavy vehicular congestion daily on E2, Abubakar Salami Way, and S20 – Oladipo Diya Way, especially at peak periods,” he explained. “When these service carriageways are completed, that pain will reduce, if not be eased completely. Traffic will flow, travel time will drop, families will spend more time together, and that is the dividend of democracy. That is the Renewed Hope you can feel and touch every day.”
The president noted that the flag‑off is part of the infrastructural revolution he promised to the capital city and to Nigerians.
“This flag‑off is part of the broader infrastructure revolution we promised Nigeria. In the last three years, we have refused to accept excuses and chosen action. From Aerial to Arterial Road N20, now Wole Soyinka Way to N16, interchange linking Jahi and Gwarimpa, the roads in Kuje, Gwagwalada, Mabushi, and the FCT are transforming before our eyes,” he said. “The Southern Service lane will further decongest the city, accelerate development of the southern axis, and bring socioeconomic benefits to the residents of the areas.”
