President Bola Tinubu celebrated the 85th birthday of the Obi of Onitsha, His Majesty Igwe Nnaemeka Alfred Achebe (Agbogidi).
In a statement released on Sunday by his Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu praised the traditional ruler—known as the foremost leader in the South‑East, a corporate executive, oil and gas specialist, and boardroom veteran—calling him a symbol of unity, grace, and integrity.
Igwe Achebe had previously served as a director of Shell Petroleum Company in Nigeria and held positions in Shell companies across the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Ghana, Sierra Leone, the Gambia, Liberia, and Angola before ascending the throne of his ancestors.
The President commended His Majesty for his peace‑building initiatives, youth empowerment programs, and socio‑economic development projects within his domain and beyond.
Tinubu specifically highlighted Igwe Achebe’s role in deepening national cohesion and acting as a vital link between grassroots communities and the government.
The President also acknowledged the ruler’s decades of service to the nation through corporate leadership, enterprise, and governance.
Tinubu joined the royal family, the people of Onitsha, and the wider Anambra State in wishing Igwe Achebe continued good health and strength as he continues to lead his community, state, and nation.
