Confusion has surrounded the abduction of Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) chieftain Comrade Bayo Fabiyi, along with a driver and another associate, in Oko-Irese, Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.
Reports indicate that Fabiyi was taken while traveling to deliver ransom and other items intended to secure the release of a previously kidnapped victim.
Sources say the group was carrying approximately ₦30 million, five motorcycles, and three bags of rice when armed men ambushed them in the area.
The ransom delivery was part of efforts to obtain the release of a victim who had been abducted earlier in the same community.
A source close to the incident claimed that the victim had been killed by the kidnappers before the ransom team arrived, a fact unknown to those on the mission.
The abductors allegedly led the team into a forested area along a route linking Kwara and Kogi states before seizing them at gunpoint.
It was also reported that the OPC chieftain had consulted before embarking on the journey, receiving a spiritual warning against the trip, which he reportedly ignored.
Initially, the incident was not reported to security agencies.
When contacted, Kwara State Commissioner of Police Ojo Adekimi said the command had not been formally informed of any kidnapping involving an OPC member at the time of inquiry.
He added that police would investigate the matter once a formal report is received.
