Ten Rescued Alive After Lagos Building Collapse

At least ten people were rescued alive after a multi‑storey building collapsed in Lagos State’s Satellite Town on Thursday.

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service (LSFRS) said it received a distress call at 11:37 a.m.

The collapse occurred on Old Ojo Road, near Alakija Bus Stop, off the Lagos‑Badagry Expressway in Satellite Town.

Responders from the Ijegun‑Egba Fire Station were dispatched immediately and arrived at the scene at 11:49 a.m. to begin rescue operations.

The collapsed structure was a residential building that was occupied by several residents at the time of the incident.

According to the agency, ten victims were pulled alive from the rubble, each suffering varying degrees of injury.

The rescued individuals were handed over to medical staff for treatment.

Search and rescue work continues as emergency workers look for, extricate, and evacuate anyone who may still be trapped beneath the debris.

“As of the time of this report, ten persons have been rescued alive with varying degrees of injuries and have been handed over to medical personnel for necessary treatment,” the statement read.

The agency added that the operation involves several emergency and security agencies.

“Search and rescue operations remain ongoing as emergency responders continue efforts to locate, extricate, and evacuate any persons who may still be trapped beneath the debris,” the statement added.

Participating agencies include the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Federal Fire Service, Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Navy, Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps, and the Nigerian Red Cross Society.

Authorities said further updates would be provided as the rescue operation progresses.
