Teenage girl arrested after stabbing at UK school leaves three injured

UK police announced on Tuesday that a 14‑year‑old schoolgirl had been arrested in Manchester after two students and a staff member were injured in a stabbing at the Co‑op Academy, north of central Manchester.

The girl was taken into custody on suspicion of assault and is being questioned by Greater Manchester Police.

Three people sustained injuries that appear to be stab wounds: a 14‑year‑old girl, a 14‑year‑old boy, and a 27‑year‑old staff member.

“All were taken to hospital, however injuries are thankfully not believed to be serious, and all are stable at this time,” police said following the incident.

The school entered lockdown after the attack, with emergency vehicles surrounding the building, according to the Manchester Evening News.

“Officers will remain at the school and within the area to provide a visible presence and community reassurance,” Chief Inspector Jon Shilvock said.

The UK government is working to curb youth knife crime and the sale of banned knives and machetes, including on online platforms. A 13‑year‑old boy was arrested and charged in February over a suspected stabbing of two boys at a London school.
