Cristo Fernandez, known for portraying Dani Rojas on Apple TV’s “Ted Lasso,” is moving from the screen to the pitch after signing with United Soccer League Championship side El Paso Locomotive.
The second‑tier club announced that the 35‑year‑old Mexican actor, who appeared as the fictional footballer Rojas in the first three seasons of “Ted Lasso,” earned his contract following “an extensive two‑month trial” that featured a pre‑season match.
“Cristo is a great addition to our roster, adding another attacking threat to our forward line,” said Locomotive head coach Junior Gonzalez. “His passion for the game and leadership qualities for our locker room allow us to continue growing the positive culture we strive for as a club.”
Fernandez began his football journey in the youth ranks of Tecos FC but left the sport at age 15 after sustaining an injury.
“Fútbol has always been a huge part of my life and identity, and no matter where life has taken me, the dream of competing professionally never truly left my heart,” Fernandez said. “I’m incredibly grateful to El Paso Locomotive FC — the club, coaches, staff, and especially my teammates — for opening the doors and giving me the opportunity to compete from day one.”
