Tambuwal Withdraws from 2027 Senatorial Race

Aminu Tambuwal, the incumbent representative for Sokoto South Senatorial District, has withdrawn his candidacy for the 2027 general elections.

The African Democratic Congress has nominated former House of Representatives Speaker Faruk Yabo as its consensus candidate to replace him.

The Daily Post notes that Tambuwal had previously sought the presidency on the Peoples Democratic Party platform in the 2023 general elections, but withdrew in favor of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

Likewise, former Deputy Governor Manir Muhammad Dan'iya, who served under Tambuwal while he was governor of Sokoto State, has been selected as the ADC's consensus candidate for the state's governorship in 2027.
