Sokoto South Senator Aminu Tambuwal has clarified the reasons behind his decision to withdraw from the 2027 senatorial race.
According to Tambuwal, his withdrawal was intended to create space for younger candidates rather than reflecting any internal problems within the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
He made the statement on Channels Television’s “Politics Today” program on Friday.
Following his exit, the ADC has nominated former House of Representatives Speaker Faruk Yabo as its consensus candidate for the senatorial seat.
The Daily Post notes that Tambuwal previously sought the presidential ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 general elections but ultimately stepped aside for former Vice‑President Atiku Abubakar.
Speaking about his withdrawal, Tambuwal said: “I will participate in the campaigns in the state. I will organize elections in the state and, as leader of the party in the state, we will conduct rigorous campaigns to convince people to vote for the ADC.”
“There isn’t any issue; there are no cracks in the ADC. My desire is to continue to promote younger people and enhance leadership recruitment.”
