Saudi Arabian club Al-Diriyah FC have stepped up their pursuit of Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi, Afrik-Foot reports.
The newly-promoted Saudi Pro League club are in talks over a deal that could see the Nigerian midfielder leave Turkish giants Beşiktaş after just one season, according to reports in Turkey.
The ambitious Saudi side, managed by Portuguese coach Bruno Lage, are ready to pay around €10 million for the 29-year-old as they look to strengthen their midfield ahead of the new campaign.
Beşiktaş signed Ndidi from Leicester City for €8 million, and the Istanbul club are now hoping to earn a quick profit by selling him for at least €10 million. Negotiations between both clubs are understood to be progressing as the Turkish side considers the offer.
Despite the growing interest from Saudi Arabia, Ndidi has not completely closed the door on remaining in European football. The midfielder is believed to favour another opportunity in one of Europe’s top leagues if the right offer arrives.
Several clubs have continued to monitor his situation. In England, Manchester United previously explored a low-cost move for the Nigerian before shifting their attention elsewhere. However, Ndidi’s experience, leadership and ability to win possession still make him an attractive option should they revisit the market.
Newly promoted Premier League side Hull City are also interested in adding the experienced midfielder to their squad as they prepare for the challenge of returning to England’s top flight. Meanwhile, Spanish club Valencia remain another possible destination after making enquiries about his availability earlier this year.
However, Al-Diriyah appear to be leading the race, although the final decision could depend on whether Ndidi receives another serious offer from Europe.
Why Beşiktaş are ready to let Ndidi leave
Beşiktaş’ willingness to sell Ndidi is not based on his performances alone. Instead, it is part of a wider rebuilding project under new head coach Vincenzo Italiano, who recently replaced Sergen Yalçın.
The Italian manager is reshaping the squad ahead of the 2026-27 season and reportedly wants a different profile of defensive midfielder to fit his tactical system. As a result, Ndidi has fallen outside the club’s long-term plans despite his importance and leadership qualities.
The club also faces pressure to comply with the Turkish Süper Lig’s foreign player registration rules. To create room for new signings chosen by Italiano, Beşiktaş are expected to move on several overseas players, with Ndidi and defender Felix Uduokhai among those considered available for transfer.
Financial reasons have also played a major role in the club’s decision. Ndidi is one of Beşiktaş’ highest-paid players, and selling him would significantly reduce the wage bill while helping the club strengthen other areas of the squad.
From a business point of view, the move also makes sense. Having paid €8 million to bring Ndidi from Leicester City, Beşiktaş believe a €10 million sale would allow them to recover their investment immediately while making a profit only a year later.
Although Al-Diriyah are prepared to offer an attractive salary package, Ndidi has remained cautious. Since becoming captain of the Super Eagles, he has made it clear that he values competing at the highest level in Europe. However, with Beşiktaş actively encouraging a transfer, the experienced midfielder is understood to be open to joining the Saudi club if personal terms meet his expectations.
