Super Eagles midfielder Ebenezer Akinsanmiro continues to face uncertainty over his long-term future ahead of the summer transfer window, Afrik-Foot reports.

The Nigerian midfielder joined Inter Milan in 2023 but has spent the last two seasons out on loan. He first joined Sampdoria for the 2024–25 campaign before moving to Pisa last season, where he made 24 appearances in Serie A.

Pisa had an option to make his loan move permanent for around €7.5 million, and it appeared as though Akinsanmiro’s future had been sorted after they activated the clause.

However, the situation remains complicated due to a buy-back clause in Inter Milan’s contract, which allows the club to reclaim him or potentially redirect his sale to another club entirely.

Bologna join race for Super Eagles midfielder

According to reports from Foot-Africa, Italian side Bologna have now entered the race to sign Akinsanmiro, adding a fresh twist to his transfer situation.

Bologna are planning a major rebuild of their squad this summer ahead of next season and the midfield is a key priority as they aim to return to European competition after narrowly missing out last season.

Akinsanmiro is very high on their priority list, with the former Coppa Italia champions considering a permanent move from Inter Milan and their interest has continued to grown in recent weeks due to several key attributes that makes the Super Eagles midfielder an attractive option for their system.

Ebenezer Akinsanmiro’s versatility

Although he plays primarily as a central midfielder, Akinsanmiro can also operate in a much deeper role in the midfield when he is required to.

This flexibility has made him a valuable option in the transfer market, as he is able to offer depth and cover in case of injuries or system changes during games. He can comfortably switch roles depending on match demands, giving his manager more solutions in the midfield areas.

At Pisa, he showed his ability to perform in multiple roles and was one of the standout performers in a challenging season, even though the club ultimately suffered relegation.

Akinsanmiro’s work rate

The Super Eagles midfielder’s energy and work rate are another reason Bologna are tracking him closely.

While he is still developing, his intensity in midfield stands out. His defensive contributions are particularly notable, averaging 1.1 interceptions per 90 minutes and 1.6 tackles per 90.

These numbers show his commitment to the team, which has contributed to why he would suit Bologna’s demanding midfield structure.

Super Eagles midfielder fits Bologna’s system

Bologna rely heavily on aggressive pressing and high-intensity football, which is perfectly suited to Akinsanmiro’s strengths.

The 21-year-old is comfortable in possession, boasting a passing accuracy of 85% last season, and he also holds his own in duels. His ability to combine both abilities makes him a strong fit for Bologna’s system and he will only continue to improve further.

Despite Bologna’s interest, any potential move still depends on Inter Milan and their decision regarding the buy-back clause.

If Inter activate the clause, then a move to Bologna could become very certain in the coming weeks. However, if they choose not to exercise the option, Pisa’s agreement would stand, allowing him to move there permanently and continue his development.

For now, his future remains open, with a final decision expected to be made very soon.
