Super Eagles Set to Play Ghana, Zambia, and Guinea in AFCON 2027 Qualifiers

The Nigeria Super Eagles may face the Ghana Black Stars, the Zambia Chipolopolo, or the Guinea national team in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

On Monday, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) released the four pots that will be used in the draw scheduled for Tuesday.

Nigeria is placed in Pot One, while Ghana and Zambia are in Pot Two.

Other teams in Pot One include Morocco, Senegal, Algeria, Egypt, Côte d’Ivoire, and Tunisia. Cameroon, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mali, South Africa, and Burkina Faso also share Pot One.

Pot Two also contains Guinea, Gabon, Uganda, Angola, Benin, Mozambique, Madagascar, Equatorial Guinea, and Comoros.

Ghana and Guinea missed qualification for the 2025 AFCON in Morocco, and Zambia was eliminated in the group stage.

Qualifying matches will take place in September/October 2026 (matchdays 1–4) and in November 2026 (matchdays 5–6).

The 2027 AFCON will be hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania from 19 June to 17 July 2027.

At the 2025 AFCON in Morocco, Nigeria secured the bronze medal by defeating Egypt. The team last won the African championship in 2013 in South Africa, edging Burkina Faso 1‑0.
