Nigeria’s Super Eagles have been drawn into Group L with familiar opponents and joint‑hosts Tanzania, Madagascar and Guinea Bissau in the qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations finals, which will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.

During the draw ceremony on Tuesday at the Egyptian Football Association headquarters in Cairo, all 48 teams were allocated to 12 groups of four. The top two teams from each group will advance to the finals, scheduled to take place between June 19 and July 17 next year.

The Super Eagles will open their qualifying campaign at home against Madagascar.

The match will be played on September 23 at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.

Four days later, they will travel to Guinea Bissau to continue the series.

The first half of the qualifiers will conclude with a home game against AFCON co‑hosts Tanzania on November 11.

In previous encounters, Nigeria defeated Madagascar both home and away in the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, and shared honours with Guinea Bissau in the race to the 2023 AFCON finals held in Côte d’Ivoire. Guinea Bissau won in Abuja while the Super Eagles earned all points in Bissau.

Tanzania was in the same qualifying pool as Nigeria for the 2017 AFCON. Both teams drew 0‑0 in Dar es Salaam before Nigeria won 1‑0 in Uyo, with a long‑range strike from Kelechi Iheanacho.

In other fixtures, Morocco’s Atlas Lions, who hosted the last finals that spanned two different years (2025 and 2026), will face Gabon, Niger Republic and Lesotho in Group A.

Seven‑time champions Egypt will play Angola, Malawi and South Sudan in Group B, while five‑time champions Cameroon will contend with a challenging pool that includes Comoros, Namibia and Congo.
