Super Eagles Newcomer Femi Azeez Scores Two Goals on Debut Against Zimbabwe Warriors

Nigeria’s Super Eagles are on track to retain the four‑nation Invitational Unity Cup after new signing Femi Azeez scored twice in his debut against Zimbabwe at the Charlton Athletic Stadium (The Valley) in London.

The Super Eagles will meet the winners of today’s second semifinal between Jamaica and India in Saturday’s final at the same venue. Nigeria beat Jamaica to win the trophy last year.

The Millwall winger, who has attracted interest from several Premier League clubs following a strong Championship campaign, announced his arrival with a memorable debut.

His first goal came from a pass by stand‑in captain Terem Moffi, with Azeez firing home from the top of the box just five minutes into the match.

The Eagles played with confidence and flair, linking passes between Azeez, Enugu Rangers full‑backs Obinna Igboke and Chibueze Oputa, Chibuike Nwaiwu, and Philip Otele on the left flank.

Zimbabwe’s Warriors showed moments of brilliance but struggled to finish, despite fielding stars such as captain Marvelous Nakamba and Marshal Munetsi.

At the 45‑minute mark, Zimbabwe goalkeeper Future Sibanda made a crucial save, leaving the Eagles with a one‑goal lead as teams headed to the dressing rooms.

The left‑footed right winger, who had 17 goal contributions in 35 Championship matches for Millwall, doubled Nigeria’s advantage in the 63rd minute.

The same Moffi again pushed down the left flank before cutting back for Azeez to finish a well‑constructed move inside the box.

The victory for the experimental Eagles is a welcome result for Coach Eric Chelle, who is seeking fresh talent to strengthen the senior Nigerian side ahead of the 2027 AFCON qualifiers starting in September.
