Super Eagles: Chelle Justifies Selecting New Players

Super Eagles head coach Éric Chelle has explained why he extended invitations to several new players for recent matches, including the Unity Cup and a friendly against Poland, DAILY POST reports.

Chelle selected eight home‑based players for the Unity Cup invitational tournament.

Among those debutants were Femi Azeez, Owen Oseni, Arthur Okonkwo, and Rafiu Durosinmi.

Abdullahi Bewene, a defender from Baník Ostrava, made his first appearance for the Super Eagles in the match against Poland, while Christian Akpan, a defender from Genk, received a late invitation for the forthcoming friendly against Portugal.

Chelle said he is focused on raising the team's quality.

“We have analysed our game over the past year and have tried to bring in players who can help the team grow,” Chelle told the Super Eagles media.

“We need to improve because, for me and for everyone, it is often the smallest details that make the difference between being the best team and winning a trophy.”
