A suicide bomber riding in a three‑wheel vehicle packed with explosives killed at least seven people and injured 20 in north‑west Pakistan, police said on Tuesday.
The attack follows a recent suicide assault in which a car bomb exploded at a checkpoint in Bannu, after which militants opened fire on police, causing at least 15 deaths.
“According to the initial reports, the suspected suicide attacker approached the two traffic police officers stationed at the checkpoint before blowing himself up,” senior police official Muhammad Sajjad Khan told AFP.
Pakistan’s foreign ministry on Monday summoned the senior Afghan diplomat in the country after concluding that a deadly suicide attack over the weekend was “masterminded by terrorists residing in Afghanistan.”
Afghanistan’s Taliban government has repeatedly denied Pakistan’s accusations that Afghan territory serves as a safe haven for militants.
The strained relationship between the neighboring states has escalated into armed conflict in recent months, including Pakistani airstrikes on Afghan cities.
