Spain put up a masterclass performance to overcome France 2-0 in the semifinal of the FIFA World Cup 2026 on Tuesday.
Goals in each half from Mikel Oyarzabal and Pedro Porro, earned Spain a first World Cup final appearance since 2010 which they won.
It is the second time Spain and France will clash at the World Cup, with the French securing a 3-1 win in the round of 16 at the 2006 tournament in Germany.
Going into Tuesday’s encounter, Spain had won the last two meetings against France and looked to maintain their dominance over Didier Deschamps side.
After a tight opening contest, Spain were awarded a penalty after Lucas Digne fouled Lamine Yamal which Oyarzabal converted to put his side 1-0 up on 22 minutes.
France were forced into an early substitution as Arsenal defender William Saliba went off injured.
Les Bleus came out more purposeful in the second half in search of the equaliser but it was Spain who doubled their lead on 58 minutes through Porro.
The right-back did a one-two exchange of pass with Dani Olmo and drove into box before firing past the French keeper.
Few minutes later Yamal thought he had made it 3-0 sending in a superb curler but his effort was ruled out for offside.
