The wife of Anambra State Governor, Nonye Soludo, praised nurses throughout Nigeria for their contributions to the health sector, calling them compassionate professionals whose service goes beyond medical care to provide hope and comfort to patients.
Soludo, founder of the non‑governmental organisation Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo, issued the statement on Tuesday in recognition of International Nurses Day 2026, observed worldwide on 12 May.
She described nurses as unsung heroes whose commitment and resilience continually strengthen health‑care delivery and support families and communities.
The Anambra First Lady also extended congratulations to nurses on the occasion and urged them to maintain their dedication to quality health‑care services.
This year’s International Nurses Day carries the theme “Our Nurses, Our Future – Empowered Nurses Save Lives.”
According to Soludo, nurses play critical roles in health‑care delivery through compassion, patience and professionalism.
“Today we celebrate the unsung heroes whose compassion and dignity speak louder than words — our nurses,” she said.
“Behind every recovering patient is a dedicated nurse who stayed awake through the night, offered reassurance in moments of fear and anxiety, and provided care with patience, strength and love.”
She noted that nurses’ contributions extend beyond administering treatment, adding that they also deliver emotional support and humanity within the health‑care system.
“Their service goes beyond medicine; they bring hope, comfort and humanity to health‑care and our society,” she stated.
Soludo also commended nurses in Anambra State and across the country for their sacrifice and commitment to saving lives.
“On this International Nurses Day, I honour the dedication, sacrifice and resilience of nurses in Anambra State and beyond,” she said.
“Your commitment continues to save lives, strengthen families and uphold the dignity of our communities every single day.”
She added, “Thank you for all you do. The world is healthier, kinder and safer because of you. Happy International Nurses Day!”
International Nurses Day is observed annually to recognise the contributions of nurses to health‑care systems worldwide and to highlight the need for stronger investment in the nursing workforce and health‑care delivery.
