Operation Fansan Yamma troops rescued 17 victims who had been kidnapped by bandits in Kura Mota village, Sabon Birni Local Government Area, Sokoto State.
A reliable security source from the area reported the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday.
According to the source, the incident took place on Thursday when a bandit group blocked the road and abducted occupants from two vehicles.
The troops of Operation Fansan Yamma confronted the bandits in a fierce firefight, during which several bandits fled while sustaining gunshot wounds.
The troops’ swift response and ongoing vigilance preserved the lives and property of the vehicle occupants,” the source added.
The source, who requested anonymity due to lack of press authority, reiterated that proactive measures had been implemented to safeguard lives and property.
The source noted that the military’s prompt action, professionalism, and bravery averted a potentially tragic outcome.
