Troops from Sector 2 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have eliminated suspected members of the Lakurawa Terrorist Group and seized weapons during operations in Sokoto and Katsina States.
The information was released in a statement posted on the Defence Headquarters Nigeria website on 15 May 2026.
According to the statement, soldiers responded to a distress call about an alleged attempt by suspected terrorists to set fire to a Nigerian Immigration Service facility in Ruwa Wiri village, Tangaza Local Government Area, Sokoto State.
During the engagement, the troops fought a gun battle with the suspects, neutralising two of them while the others fled the area.
In a subsequent sweep at the site, soldiers recovered two AK‑47 rifles, ammunition, and a motorcycle.
In a separate operation in Jibia Local Government Area, Katsina State, patrol troops reportedly encountered suspected terrorists moving with stolen livestock near the Danya Bakwai settlement.
The statement added that the suspects abandoned 62 stolen animals after the troops engaged them.
The recovered livestock were later returned to their owners at the palace of the Daddara District Head in Jibia.
“Operation FANSAN YAMMA remains committed to eradicating terrorism and banditry in the region,” the statement read.
