The Labour Party (LP) in Sokoto State has announced its slate of candidates for the 2027 general elections after completing its primary elections through a consensus arrangement.

The primaries, held on Saturday under the supervision of the party’s Primaries Electoral Committee, selected candidates for the governorship, National Assembly, and the Sokoto State House of Assembly.

At the conclusion of the exercise, Aminu Umar Ahmad was chosen as the party’s governorship candidate. Candidates were also selected for the three senatorial districts, 11 House of Representatives constituencies, and 30 State House of Assembly seats.

Julius Inedu, Chairman of the Primaries Electoral Committee, said the process was conducted peacefully and in accordance with the party’s constitution, electoral guidelines, and the relevant provisions of the Electoral Act.

He added that the consensus arrangement adopted by stakeholders reflected the collective will of party members and ensured a smooth, rancour‑free process.

“The process was peaceful and demonstrated the commitment of members to unity and internal democracy,” he said.

Inedu noted that consultations involving aspirants, delegates, and party leaders preceded the emergence of the candidates.

Abdullahi Bello, Secretary of the Primaries Electoral Committee, described the successful conduct of the exercise as evidence of the party’s growing presence in the state.

He said party members displayed maturity and discipline throughout the process and pledged to strengthen party structures ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Party officials stated that stakeholders unanimously endorsed the consensus arrangement and expressed confidence in the candidates’ ability to represent the party in the forthcoming elections.

They also reaffirmed the party’s commitment to expanding its support base and mobilising voters across the state ahead of the 2027 polls.
