JOS — Security agencies have detained several suspects linked to the recent armed assault on the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Kuru, Plateau State, which resulted in three fatalities.
Professor Ayo Omotayo, Director‑General of NIPSS, confirmed the arrests during a security assessment visit to the institute, where he met Deputy Inspector‑General of Police for the North Central Zone, Mohammed Bala Ishaq.
The visit came after the Tuesday assault by armed attackers, an event that has heightened concerns about security at one of the nation’s leading policy‑training centers.
Omotayo noted that intelligence had flagged a possible attack beforehand, which he said allowed security operatives to react quickly and curb the extent of the assault.
He affirmed that investigations were underway and pledged to identify and prosecute all individuals involved in the attack.
The DG also praised security agencies for their swift response and for bolstering their presence around the institution after the incident.
In his remarks, Deputy Inspector‑General Mohammed Bala Ishaq assured staff and participants of Senior Executive Course 48, 2026, of sufficient protection, emphasizing that the Nigeria Police Force, together with other security agencies, had increased security deployments inside and around the institute.
He said the heightened security measures were intended to prevent a recurrence and safeguard personnel, participants, and visitors.
Meanwhile, Vice President Kashim Shettima is scheduled to visit NIPSS in Kuru today to express
