Sheringham: Tuchel Will Regret Omitting Palmer From England’s 2026 World Cup Squad

Former Manchester United striker Teddy Sheringham has said that England manager Thomas Tuchel will regret leaving Chelsea star Cole Palmer out of the 2026 World Cup squad.

In a conversation with BoyleSports, Sheringham stressed his conviction that Palmer offers a unique advantage that England will miss during the tournament.

Sheringham highlighted Palmer’s distinctive trickery, which can unlock tightly packed defenses that other players cannot penetrate.

“I probably would have chucked Cole Palmer into the squad as well just to say to him go on and give us that bit of trickery that we need, when we need it. He’s the kind of player that can open some doors no other players can. He’s been a big player in big games for Chelsea too.”

“He comes and he goes with his little flashes and that could have been the icing on the cake for England in certain games.”

“In my view, Morgan Rogers is the only No. 10 in the England squad for what I’m looking for from a player in that position. Maybe that’s why you’d take Cole Palmer just to change it up when needed because they’re very different players.”

“Jude Bellingham can play there too but if England had Rogers and Cole Palmer, that would have been a nice option to have.”

Tuchel omitted Cole Palmer from the World Cup squad because of the player’s lack of club form, injury struggles, and minimal impact during national team camps.

Tuchel preferred players who had stronger seasons and fit better into his tactical plans for the tournament.

He noted that Palmer failed to reach the decisive, influential levels he had displayed in previous seasons with Chelsea.
