Former federal lawmaker Shehu Sani has criticized the South African government for denying entry to Abdul Samad Rabiu, the founder and chairman of BUA Group.
According to Daily Post, Rabiu disclosed during a speech at the Africa CEO Forum in Kigali, Rwanda on Thursday that his visa had expired a day before his planned trip, resulting in his denial of entry.
Rabiu noted that European travellers were allowed to enter South Africa without visas, despite his own rejection.
In response, Sani posted on X on Friday, calling the government’s action an “affront to Nigeria.”
“South Africa cannot have billions of dollars of investment in our country and treat such a revered figure with rejection and contempt,” Sani wrote. “Xenophobia is escalating from the streets to governance. It’s time to put aside history and African brotherhood and deal with this matter squarely.”
