Former senator Shehu Sani reacted to the death of Abu‑Bilal al‑Minuki, the second‑in‑command of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), which was carried out by U.S. forces in cooperation with the Nigerian military.

In a post shared on X this Saturday, Sani praised the collaboration between Nigeria and the United States in the fight against terrorism, calling it a “commendable and welcome development.”

He also urged that the fight against insurgents must be intensified, adding: “The partnership and successes achieved between Nigeria and the US in the war against terrorism is a commendable and welcome development, but more needs to be done. Terrorists live by the Sword.”

Sani’s comments followed a statement from former President Donald Trump announcing that U.S. forces and the Nigerian Armed Forces had jointly conducted a military operation that resulted in al‑Minuki’s death on the African continent.

In a post on his Truth Social account, Trump said the operation was the result of extensive intelligence gathering and strategic coordination aimed at tracking the terrorist leader’s activities in Africa.

According to Trump, al‑Minuki was one of ISIS’s most active figures, involved in coordinating attacks and supporting operations against American and African communities.

He added that the operation would significantly weaken ISIS’s global activities and reduce the group’s presence on the continent, while also praising the Nigerian government and military for their cooperation during the mission.
